Orange Heritage

For many in Northern Ireland, watching and playing with the Orange bands was the first introduction to music, from flutes, to pipes and the famous Lambeg Drum.

Many, including Seamus Heaney have written of the thunderous drum. The Rhymers perform Biddy McDowell, a traditional Lambeg Rhythm song that directs the playing of the beat.

The Armagh Rhymers work with Orange heritage in Carleton Street Orange hall, Portadown on the Mumming & Drumming Project which brings together mumming tradition with Orange heritage. This shared education project brings together schools from all communities to celebrate the myths and legends that unite us.
